Two Days in a Biplane

I barely slept a wink the night before, but the anticipation and excitement of the events to come had me alert as ever. Our job was to fly a 40-year-old Hatz CB-1 biplane we had never seen before, 1200 miles from Central Florida to upstate New York, delivering the airplane to its new owner.

Different But The Same

Despite the different feeling, the flights were very much the same as every other flight prior. The harsh truth is that no matter how much I learn or how many certificates and ratings I achieve, there is always more to learn; and it is humbling.

DIY Bus Conversion

After hundreds of hours of planning and many hundreds more of construction, lessons learned are these: spend a lot of time kicking the tires of your floor plan, bus walls are not square, too much insulation is not possible and wood squeaks at 70 mph. The biggest lesson learned is what works for someone else’s purpose on their platform, with their ability and budget, may not work for you on yours. Learn as much as you can from others but in the end, build what you want to meet your own needs.
